Students from the Academy of Finance attend workshop dealing with Actuaries and Analytics

Last week, several students from the New Britain High School Academy of Finance attended an all day workshop at the Actuarial and Analytics High School Day sponsored by Travelers in Hartford. According to Travelers, the Actuarial & Analytics High School Day has always had one goal in mind: to promote careers based in mathematics to high school students as they begin the process of picking a major. Each year compiles a list ranking 200 jobs from best to worst using five criteria: physical demands, work environment, income, stress, and hiring outlook. The results are then published in the Wall Street Journal. This past year many jobs that require a strong math background claimed spots near the top of this list. Among these are Actuary (#1), Mathematician (#3), and Statistician (#4).

During the day, students from Connecticut listened to various speakers, participated in several panels and even job shadowed with employees to learn more about actuaries and analytics!
