Coyote

INTRODUCTION:
Come on in! Hello my name is Ronnie the Robot and welcome to my classroom! I am learning about the Sonoran Desert but I need your help! Can you help me figure out this clue? I may look like your pet but I run in the wild. I like to be loud and howl like a child. I live in the Sonoran Desert and hunt in a pack. If you come too close, I may attack. Who am I? A COYOTE! That's right! Good job! Now look through this page and learn more information about the coyote. There is a quiz at the end of the website to test your knowledge. There are also fun activities you can do at the bottom of this page! Good luck! Bye!

WHO AM I?
I am a coyote and I live in the Sonoran Desert. I love to eat small animals and howl at night. I am brown and look very similar to a dog.

WHERE DO I LIVE?
I live in the Sonoran Desert. I mostly live in Arizona, southern California, and parts of Mexico. I like to live alone or in groups called packs. We like to live and sleep in dens!

WHAT DO I EAT?
I like to eat small animals like rabbits, rodents, insects, birds, lizards, and snakes. I also like to eat plants and flowers but meat is definitely my favorite! If I am in a big group we will sometimes hunt bigger animals like deer, anteope, elk, and cattle.

HOW DO I LOOK?
I have a tan fur coat with brown and grey. My belly is usually white. I have pointy ears and a
bushy tail. I may look like your pet dog!

HOW DO I REPRODUCE?
I have babies in January or February. I have about 5 to 8 pups who stay with me until they are about 2 years old. My pups can go hunt for food when they are only 2 ½ months old!

FUN FACT ABOUT ME?
I howl to keep track of my family. I also howl to communicate with other coyotes. My favorite time to howl is in the evening or night.
