Desert Sand Verbena

t Sand Verbena.  This plant grows in the Sonoran Desert and can also be found in California, Nevada, and Northern Mexico. It loves growing in sandy flats, dunes, and desert roadsides. It eats plenty of sunlight and needs very little water causing the soil that it grows in to be well drained. Desert Sand Verbenas grow flowers that are pink or purple in color.  The flowers have five petals and it’s leaves are oval with wedgy edges. The wind, birds, bees, or insects carry the pollen from this flower dropping it wherever.  Wherever the pollen lands a new plant will begin growing giving it has the right nutrition. After the winter rains, Desert Sand Verbena can carpet miles of the desert leaving a very fragrant smell. Now, lets get started!



WHO AM I?
I am a flower that grows in the desert. I sometimes can occupy a large amount of space. I require little water and a lot of sunlight. I am called a Desert Sand Verbena.


WHERE DO I LIVE?
I live in the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts.  I can be found in the states of California, Arizona, and Nevada.  I also can be found in the northern half of Mexico. I like to grow in sandy flats, dunes, and desert roadsides.

WHAT DO I EAT?
I love soil that is well drained. I need water, but a very very small amount. Sunlight is my main source of nutrition.



HOW DO I LOOK?
I am a soft haired, sticky plant.  I grow medium sized flowers that a bright pink/purple in color.  My flowers grow to be three to four inches wide. My flowers consist of five total petals and my leaves are oval with wedgy edges.

HOW DO I REPRODUCE?
When the wind blows, it carries my pollen or seeds.  My seeds grow where they land. Insects or birds can also drop my seeds in different places.  As I start to grow, then my flowers will start to bloom.

FUN FACT ABOUT ME?
After the winter rains, I can carpet miles of the desert with pink. I am also very fragrant.
