INTRODUCTIONWhy hello there! Are you ready to learn about bursage? I thought so! Bursage is a shrub that lives in the desert. It has spikey flowers and sometimes it looks dead. Bursage does not need much water to live, but it does need lots and lots of sunshine! Bursage also likes to protect other plants in the desert when they are growing and developing. There are two different ways that bursage can reproduce. First, if there is not much rainfall, the branches will die and fall off, and new branches will grow in their place. Second, if there is enough rainfall, the seeds get carried in the wind or on the skin and hair of animals. These seeds grow in open areas of the desert. Now that you are quite the expert on bursage, why don't you go and tell your friends! ![]() WHO AM I? I am a desert-dwelling shrub. Sometimes I might look like I need some water, but in the spring I am full of flowers. WHERE DO I LIVE? I can live in sandy soils and the bottoms of creeks. I can be found in desert areas from California to Texas. I must live in a dry area! WHAT DO I EAT? I soak up the sun for my food. Since I live in the desert I require little amounts of water to survive. HOW DO I LOOK? I am a green shrub that grows to be about 30 inches tall. I look like I am made up of dead twigs, but in the spring I am covered in leaves and flowers. My flowers are spiky and the fruit that grows on them is spiny. HOW DO I REPRODUCE? If there is enough rainfall, I produce seeds that spread through the wind and grow in open areas. My seeds have prickles that get stuck in the hair and on the skin of animals, so they transport my seeds as well. If there is not enough rain, I can clone myself! My old branches will die and be replaced by new ones once rain does fall. WANT SOME COOL FACTS ABOUT ME? I shed my leaves during a drought. I protect other desert plants during their development. I have pollen so beware if you are allergic! ACTIVITIES:
