Hello! Today we are going to be learning about the Desert Sunflower. Another name for the Desert Sunflower is the Desert Gold. This is called the nick name of the flower.This flower grows in Arizona, California, Mexico and Utah. INTRODUCTION : So if you are ever in these states look for one! It is yellow, skinny and hairy. WHO AM I?
I am a Desert flower. My nickname is Desert Gold. I have 10 to 20 long yellow rays. I bloom February through May and sometimes in October and November.
WHERE DO I LIVE? I live in the Sonoran and Mojave deserts. I can be found in Arizona, California, Utah and Mexico. It is usually sandy and flat where I live.
WHAT DO I EAT? I only need two things to grow. I need the light of the sun to help me grow strong. I also feed off the water of the earth. These are the only things that help me grow big and strong.
HOW DO I LOOK? I am a yellow, skinny, hairy plant. I can be as little as 1 foot high. I can grow up to 3 feet high. My leaves grow 3 inches long.
![]() HOW DO I REPRODUCE? Wind carries my pollen and starts a new flower in a new spot. My seeds get attached to bees when they land on me. The bees take theseeds to a boy or girl flower and a new flower is made.
FUN FACT ABOUT ME? I can grow up to 3,000 feet underground! I attract Birds and Bees and feed them. I am a member of the Asteraceae family.

Kindergarten: Draw a picture of some Desert Sunflowers and color them with the right colors. Then write a sentence about what you learned.
1st-2nd: Make a PowerPoint on Desert Sunflowers. Find two pictures of them, and add two sentences about what you learned. One picture and one sentence will be on a slide. So you will have two slides in all. 3rd- Make up a paragraph story about a talking Desert Sunflower, what would they say? Include things you learned and pictures.
