Today we are going to be learning about the dune evening primrose! This primrose is a type of wildflower that lives and grows in rocky and sandy soils of the sonoran desert. Primrose flowers are the color white during the early evening when they first open, and then they slowly turn to a shade of pink by early morning. A primrose eats by absorbing nutrients from the soil. These flowers bloom from January until May and grow very low to the ground . These flowers do not have a very long lifespan. Who am I?
I am the evening primrose. I grow in the rocky and sandy soils of the Sonoran Desert! My large petals open up at dusk. During this time, my color is a very bright white, and then I slowly fade to pink by the early morning. I grow very low to the ground and I am surrounded by a green plant that has very tiny and hairy leaves.
Where do I live?
I live in the southwest part of the United States. I have been seen in California, Arizona, and Utah. I can even be found in northwestern Mexico!
What do I eat?
I eat naturally by absorbing the nutrients from the soil.
When I first open up at dusk, I am a large white flower and I grow on a greyish green plant. I have four large petals and they fade to the color pink by early morning. I completely close my petals before the noon hour.
How do I reproduce?
I reproduce through a process that is called pollination. With the help of the wind, and the White-lined Spinx Moth, pollen is brought to me. This pollen helps me reproduce.
