Step-By-Step Procedures:

Activity #1 (Visual Learner, Verbal/Linguistic Intelligence, and touches on Knowledge and Comprehension in Bloom’s Taxonomy)

Grade K: Create a slide show. Find a picture about your favorite season in the Sonoran Desert and write one sentence about the pictured season.
List the average temperature, wind, precipitation, and storm associated with that season.
Share your slide show, picture and sentence with a parent or teacher. Tell them why this is your favorite season.

Grade 1-2: Create a slide show. Find a picture about your favorite season in the Sonoran Desert and write a 3-4 sentences about what you see.
List the average temperature, wind, precipitation, and storm associated with that season.
Share your slide show, picture and sentences with a parent or teacher. Tell them why this is your favorite season.

Grade 3: Create a slide show. Find a picture about your favorite season in the Sonoran Desert. Write a 4-6 sentences about what you see in the picture.
List the average temperature, wind, precipitation, and storm associated with that season. Measure weather conditions, such as rain.
What might have happened to cause what you see in the picture? Share your slide show, picture, and sentences with a parent or teacher.
Explain to them why this is your favorite season, and what might of happened in this picture. Read your sentences to them.

Plan For Independent Practice:
Child can do research and look for pictures online, as well as use the pictures provided in the Weather portion of the site.
Use presentation software on their own to create the slide show.

Closure:
After creating your slide show, share the slide show with an adult and/or a friend. Tell them why you liked the pictures you chose and read to them what you wrote. If possible share your presentation with someone who has also created a presentation about their favorite season in the Sonoran Desert and compare. Children should be able to describe what happens in the season they chose and that the Sonoran Desert has five seasons.

Assessment Based On Objectives:
Who are you sharing your favorite season with? A parent, friend, an adult?
How much water does the season you chose to do your presentation on get?
How do you know, what about the plants tells you?

Adaptations (For Students With Learning Disabilities):
The activity could be the same where the student finds a picture they liked and talked about the picture(s) to a classmate or teacher, instead of writing.

Extensions (For Gifted Students):
Have children choose their favorite season in addition to another season or their choice of an animal, crawler, or vegetation.
Have the student present to an adult or another student.

Possible Connections To Other Subjects:
Writing is a connection to another subject, in addition to science. Math can be incorporated when measuring rain fall to a city in the Sonoran Desert, Tucson, Arizona, to the city they live in.
If possible take a field trip to the Desert Botanical Garden or the Arboretum.
