Hello students! Today we are learning about a rattlesnake that is called the Black tailed rattlesnake. Can you guess why this snake received its name? On this page, you will find out how I received my name and more interesting facts about this snake! You will also complete the activity and quiz!  

 
 
 
 
WHO AM I?
I am the Black-tailed Rattlesnake. I am a rattlesnake with a large rattler that has very harmful venom.
 
WHERE DO I LIVE?
I live anywhere from central Texas through western Arizona. I am mostly found near rocky habitats! I avoid grasslands and barren desert.
 
WHAT DO I EAT?
I like to eat pocket mice, wood rats, squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks and birds.

HOW DO I LOOK?

 I'm between 28-49 inches long. I can be greenish, yellowish or grayish with black or brown crossbands or blotches of irregular outline. I have a distinctive black tail.

HOW DO I REPRODUCE?
I will have 3-16 live young that are 9-12 inches long and my babies are born during the summer months, from July- August.
 
FUN FACT ABOUT ME?
I also have a black snout!
 
 

ACTIVITY:
 
Kindergarten- 1st grade-
The students will use powerpoint to create a short story with a parent about the Black- tailed Rattlesnake. They can use the information on this page to create the story.The powerpoint should be 1 or 2 slides.
 
2nd grade-
Students will use powerpoint to create a short story on the Black- tailed Rattlesnake and can use the internet for little research. Powerpoint should include 3-4 slides with pictures added. Students may recieve help from a parent or sibling.
 
3rd grade-
Students will create a powerpoint with 5 slides about the Black- tailed Rattlesnake and do research on the topic and include pictures to go along with the research
