INTRODUCTION

Hello! Are you ready to learn about the western banded gecko! Great! The western banded gecko is a nocturnal lizard and it lives in the desert. It runs around in the night hunting for prey and enjoying the night sky. It lives in the desert regions of the southwestern United States, in the states of Arizona, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, and Northern Mexico. This gecko likes sandy and rocky areas. It enjoys living in trees up to 5,000 feet also. The western banded gecko frequently digs into other animals burrows to eat insects and arthropods like spiders and baby scorpions. Its skin is a pale pink translucent color with brown bands and it can get up to 6 inches in length. Their bands turn into blotches as they grow older. Its eyelids are moveable and they have vertical pupils. Female western banded geckos breed in April and May and will lay 1 to 3 sets of two eggs between the months of May and September. WHO AM I?

I am a nocturnal lizard and I live in the desert.I run around in the night hunting for prey and enjoying the night sky.

WHERE DO I LIVE?
I live in the desert regions of the southwestern United States, in the states of Arizona, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, and Northern Mexico.I like sandy and rocky areas. I enjoy living in trees up to 5,000 feet also.

WHAT DO I EAT?
I frequently dig into other animals burrows to eat insects and arthropods like spiders and baby scorpions. These things come out at night, just like I do, so it makes it simpler for me to hunt.

HOW DO I LOOK?

My skin is a pale pink translucent color with brown bands and I can get up to 6 inches in length. My bands turn into blotches as a grow older. My eyelids are moveable and vertical pupils.

HOW DO I REPRODUCE?
Females of my kind breed in April and May and will lay 1 to 3 sets of two eggs between the months of May and September. Hatching occurs 45 days later.

FUN FACT ABOUT ME?
I get within one inch of my prey before pouncing on it. I then lick my face with my tongue to remove all debris from my meal.

Kindergarten- 1st Grade:  Students will draw or print out a picture of the western banded gecko. Then they wil cut it out and glue it to a page in their writers notebooks. Underneath the picture, they need to write one sentence about their favorite thing they learned today about the western banded gecko.
2nd Grade: Students will draw or print out a picture of the western banded gecko. Then they wil cut it out and glue it to a page in their writers notebooks. Underneath the picture, they need to write two to three sentences about their favorite things they learned today about the western banded gecko.
3rd Grade: Students will draw or print out a picture of the western banded gecko. Then they wil cut it out and glue it to a page in their writers notebooks. Underneath the picture, they need to write one paragraph of at least 5 sentences about their favorite things they learned today about the western banded gecko.
