For many years, archaeologists have argued about the theories on the meaning of the use of rock art. Hohokam rock art may have been used to draw out memories, used to record events, they may be trail markers, boundary markers, or territorial signals. Many archaeologist today believe that rock art had some kind of ceremonial or religious significance. Although no one can be certain what Hohokam rock art truly meant to its creators, archaeologists have concluded that it was not simply a form of graffiti. Rock art took a lot of time and energy to create and some panels of rock art are high on cliff walls or in caves. |
