Hello students! Today we are talking about the Common Collared Lizard. This lizard is known for its black collars around its neck! That is why it is named the Common Collared Lizard. This lizard lives in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. You will learn lots of interesting facts about this lizard from this site. You will also complete an activity and a quiz!
WHO AM I? I am the Common Collared Lizard.
WHERE DO I LIVE? I live in Arizona, in the Sonoran desert. I often like to sit on large rocks basking in the sun and looking out for other individuals or food. WHAT DO I EAT? I usually eat grasshoppers, but also eat other insects as well as other lizards. I will also eat small amounts of fruits and veggies. Yummy!!
HOW DO I LOOK?
I am medium sized and can reach up to 10 inches and males are larger than females. I have two black collars around my neck and that's how I received my name. My scales are tan, bright green, brown, olive, bluish or yellowish with many light spots and dark crossbands and my belly is white. HOW DO I REPRODUCE?
In the early summer, I lay 1 to 13 eggs and can reproduce more than once a year. FUN FACT ABOUT ME!
I have the ability to run on my hind legs. When I do this I look like a small dinosaur. Also, If I am confronted by a predator, I quickly dive into rock crevices to avoid being eaten!
Activity:
Kindergarten- 1st grade-
The students will use powerpoint to create a short story with a parent about the Common Collared Lizard. They can use the information on this page to create the story.The powerpoint should be 1 or 2 slides.
2nd grade-
Students will use powerpoint to create a short story on the Common Collared Lizardand can use the internet for little research. Powerpoint should include 3-4 slides with pictures added. Students may recieve help from a parent or sibling.
3rd grade- Students will create a powerpoint with 5 slides about the Common Collared Lizard and do research on the topic and include pictures to go along with the research. |
