By: Kourtnei Dillard INTRODUCTION: Hello! Today we are going to be talking about Walking Sticks! I'm not talking about the kind that helps you walk, I'm talking about the bug. Walking sticks are insects that like to copy thier surrondings. This is called camouflaging, and it keeps the Walking Sticks safe from enemies. They like to eat grass and plants and they live on the branches of trees. Walking sticks are really cool because they can fix their own broken legs if they are not grown. I am a insect that is shaped like branches on a tree. I have a natural camouflage which protects me from enemies. I am one of the longest insects in the world.
WHERE DO I LIVE? I can live in tropic and subtropic areas. I can live in deserts, but I live longer in tropic areas. I am usually found on twigs in trees. WHAT DO I EAT? I like to eat grass and plants.I love to eat every kind of plant that there is. My favorite things to eat are leaves. HOW DO I LOOK?
I can be up to 13 inches long. I can copy my surrounding colors like green or brown. I also have wings on my body. Some of us have spines on our backs. ![]() HOW DO I REPRODUCE? Female walking sticks can lay eggs on their own. Without help from the male sticks, all the walking sticks will be girls. There are more girl than boy walking sticks. FUN FACT ABOUT ME? If I am not fully grown, I can fix my own broken limbs. If I break my leg, I can fix it because I am still growing. ACTIVITY
Kindergarten: Draw a picture of a Walking Stick on a branch and color it with the right colors. Then write a sentence about what you learned.
1st-2nd: Make a PowerPoint on Walking Sticks. Find two pictures of Walking Sticks, and add two sentences about what you learned. One picture and one sentence will be on a slide. So you will have two slides in all. 3rd- Make up a paragraph story about some Walking Sticks, including things you learned. Include pictures, you can do this in PowerPoint or Word.
