By: Amanda Flores I am a bark scorpion. I live in the desert and my stinger is my weapon. I can be considered extremely dangerous, so if you see me out in the desert don’t try to touch me. WHERE DO I LIVE? I can be found in many places because I have the ability to crawl. I like dark places such as under rocks or in rock crevices. I can be found on rock walls or in trees. If I am found inside, I will likely be around damp towels, bath tubs, or dark closets. WHAT DO I EAT? I am a predator and consume all types of insects. Spiders, crickets, and even sometimes, other scorpions, are part of my diet. HOW DO I LOOK? My body has two parts, a cephalothorax and an abdomen. My tail is actually part of my abdomen. It has five segments, each longer than the last. At the tip is my stinger (not considered a segment). I have 8 jointed legs and a pair of pedipalps that are used for grasping prey and sensing. I am typically 2-3 inches long. HOW DO I REPRODUCE? The male holds the female's pincers and "dances" with her, turning round and round for up to several hours. Approximately 30 eggs develop inside the mother's body over several months and break during "birth", releasing fully developed offspring. They ride on the female's back for 7-10 days before their first molt when they disperse. FUN FACT ABOUT ME?
