Who am I?
I am the Palo Verde Root Borer! I am the longest beetle that lives in the Sonoran Desert. I can grow to be up to five inches long and I have wings that help me fly! I come out during monsoon season in the month of July, and I am most active in the early evening hours! Due to the fact that I like to eat tree roots, I tend to damage trees!
Where do I live?
I live in the American Southwest Region and have also been located in northern Mexico! We live in native trees, but we have also have adapted to live in non native trees! The types of trees we can be found in are the Mexican Palo Verde Trees, as well as rose and olive trees!
What do I eat?
I like to eat the woody tissue of tree roots, and I sometimes even enjoy snacking on fruit!
I have been told that I look a lot like a cockroach! I range from being dark brown to black in color, I have SUPER long antennae and wings that sit on my back!
How do I reproduce?
I reproduce by laying eggs in the soil by the tree roots!
The fact that I am nocturnal, I enjoy staying up all night long! FUN ACTIVITY!
