INTRODUCTION:

Hello, today we will be learning about the Canyon Wren. Hey, did you know I live in Sonoran Desert in arid, rocky cliffs outcrops, and canyons. They tend to feed off of small insects and spiders. The Canyon Wren lays about 4-6 eggs per cup nest. Their nests are made out of twigs and other plants in a rock crevice. It is a small songbird with a white throat, bright and barred tail, and a long, thin bill. Now it is time to read more about the Canyon Wren and take a quiz.

HOW DO I LOOK
I soar through the skies, I love to eat bugs and you can't see me against the Grand Canyon. Who am I? I am the Canyon Wren.I have a few relatives, and against rock I am practically invisible, and like the Mesquite Mouse I am classified as "least concern" on the endagered species list.

CHECK ME OUT!
I am a small songbird with a white throat, bright and barred tail, and a long, thin bill. I am the color brown and I am more often heard than seen. I am often seen living in the scenery that is often used in Willy E. Cyote cartoons. Who am I? I am the Canyon Wren.

WHERE DO I LIVE
Up high in rocky crevaces you will find my nest. It is most commonly composed of twigs, lichen and other coarse materials. I am found all over Arizona.

WHAT DO I EAT
I tend to eat small spiders. I also eat other small insects. These insects tend to provide me my source of water. This makes me not having to drink water.

HOW DO I REPRODUCE
I find a mate and then build a nest. I lay about 3-7 eggs per nest. I mate during the summer season. My breeding grounds tend to be where I live since I am not really a migratory bird.
FUN FACTS?
I am not known to drink water. It is believed that I receive my water from the insects I eat.

ACTIVITY
Write a paragraph/prompt about a wren who is afraid of heights and has to make a nest or learn to fly.
