Hello! Let's learn about the beautiful Anna's Hummingbird! It lives in the Sonoran Desert and decorates it with its dazzling colors. They feed on nectar and small insects. You can also run into them in your very own garden! Sometimes, you can even hear their metallic song. There's a lot to learn about the Anna's Hummingbird, so don't be afraid to start exploring!

WHO AM I?
I am a medium-sized hummingbird. My legs are too tiny for me to hop or walk, so I hover before flowers. If you listen carefully, you can hear my scratchy-metallic song.

WHERE DO I LIVE?
I can be found in the Sonoran Desert near eucalyptus trees and in gardens. I like to sing on the high branches of small trees. I could also be in your own backyard!

WHAT DO I EAT?
Most of the time, I eat nectar. I can get nectar from either flowers or feeders. I also like to eat small insects or spiders that I catch in the air.

HOW DO I LOOK?
I look like a flying jewel! My body is gray, but my feathers are emerald. My throat is a sparkling rose-pink. I am no bigger than a ping-pong ball and no heavier than a nickel.

HOW DO I REPRODUCE?
If I am a male, I attract the female. I do this with my squeaky singing. If I am a female, I build the nest to lay my eggs. I only lay about 2 eggs and they hatch in 23 days.

FUN FACTS!
I (Male Anna's Hummingbird) can fly up to 40m (131 feet).
I can live up to 8 years.
Hummingbirds are the only birds to be known to fly backwards.
My heart beats about 1260 times per minute.
