La Loma Native Garden Goals

To provide a space to view a variety of drought tolerant plants to use in home landscapes.

Increase habitat for pollinators (birds, bees, butterflies).

Provide an educational resource for students and the community.

Beautify neighborhood from previous neglect.

Develop community appreciation for native plants and the natural environment.

The La Loma Native Garden was created in 2017 as a partnership between the La Loma Neighborhood and the City of Modesto.

La Loma Native Garden occupies approximately two acres. It was once an old irrigation canal that was filled in. The garden showcases wildflowers, shrubs, trees, and succulents.. It borders Encina Avenue in Modesto, CA

What is a native garden?

A native garden is a landscape utilizing plants adapted to the local climate and soil conditions where they occur naturally.

( The La Loma Native Garden strives to maintain a majority of California native plant species, while incorporating a few drought tolerant species from other Mediterranean climate regions.

The La Loma Native Garden has special sections: Pollinator mounds, wildflower patch, bird habitat, groundcover mound, succulent rock gardens, desert area, grass patches, wildflower and grass meadow, drybeds, meditation circle, and blue and white flower areas.
