Bee Helpful

About the Project

The name of my project is Bee Helpful, and it is focused on saving bees. Bee populations have been in decline and even endangered, due to harmful pesticides, industrial agriculture, and lack of food sources and nesting areas. More than a third of the world's crops are dependent on the pollination of bees, and many crops are almost entirely dependent. Without bees, foods like apples. almonds, avocados, and blueberries will drastically stop growing, or perhaps stop grow growing entirely.

Through my project, I hope to be able to teach students the importance of bees in our everyday lives and what they can do to help. Through my project, students will be able to understand the role of bees in our ecosystem, what foods are dependent on bees, and receive wildflower seeds to plant at home.

You'll be able to find my project at the Westside High School Prairie, at the back of the school. (Fun fact, my brother also did his Eagle Scout project in the WHS Prairie as well!) Along with educating others, my project will also feature bee houses and a watering hole to be placed in the prairie for bees to use. By having a nesting and water source, as well as planting many wildflowers, many bees will be attracted to the prairie and be able to help the local bee population in my area.

I hope to make a big impact in my community. By having many people aware of the problem, more people will actively help in their own communities and homes.
