The Pawn Project is a youth-led non-profit chess club where K–12 students can learn, play, and grow their chess skills in a fun and supportive environment. Whether you’re brand new to the game or already playing tournaments, our monthly meetups are a great place to improve and connect with other young players.
Our coaches are strong youth chess players who know how to teach and inspire — because they’re kids too! We focus on helping players build a solid foundation and love for the game.
At each monthly meetup, every K–12 student gets the chance to:
Work one-on-one with our special guest or a skilled youth chess coach (all of our coaches are strong tournament players!)
Play fun, level-matched games with other kids their age
Use their own ChessKid account to practice at home and get personalized assignments from their coach
All sessions are held on the first Monday of each month, from 4–6 PM at the Purcellville Library. Check our events page or the Purcellville Library events page for updates.
