About the Artist

Fifth-generation Texan Kevin Obregón is a full-time dallas-based site-specific sculptor, painter, writer, muralist, percussionist and artist’s advocate who co-founded “the cube Creative", an ever-evolving “underground" contemporary art gallery, design house, and fine art studio located in the tyler davis art district of north oak cliff, a bicycle-cool niche suburb 3 minutes from downtown dallas.

He recently founded cliffwalls mural projects, a multi-tiered mural & graffiti program involving schools, city officials, local & regional artists as well as international muralists and graffiti crews designed to redirect creative energies towards legal, commissioned works of street art.

Obregón was instrumental in developing the annual tree carving project (now a part of the ‘make space projects') at dallas’ only “urban forest” artist-in-residency, la reunion tx. You can see two of his sculptural installations and a chainsaw-cut bench sitting on the 35+ acres of property near the oak cliff/cockrell hill border. He is also forming a woodcut artists group within la reunion’s many creative programs utilizing felled, non-native trees directly from the property and turning them into works of art and installations.

Kevin was also responsible for the recent visual transformation of the ‘river west' area (west dallas) industrial neighborhood at the base of the new margaret hunt hill bridge designed by the spanish sculptor/architect, santiago calatrava, by suggesting a massive primary & secondary coloration of the many warehouses and buildings that one would see upon crossing the bridge.

He was the curator & artist liaison for art conspiracy for the 2009 & 2010 years and now serves as Special Arts Project Coordinator for Art Con, wherein an Art Car will be created & documented live by a curated group of artists & auctioned off as part of Art Conspiracy’s live auctions during their 2-day event, now its seventh year. Art Conspiracy is street level philanthropy at its best. Members of the creative community in North Texas pool their talents to create bi-annual fundraising events that support other nonprofit arts programs. Art Conspiracy events are designed to be affordable and offer everyone a chance to purchase original artwork at a reasonable level. Art Conspiracy is a 501(c)(3) organization with irs nonprofit status and has raised over $100,000 since its inception which began as an art- and music-centered fund raiser for the victims of hurricane Katrina.

As of late, Obregón is also forming an art car club for art car enthusiasts and artists (also called Art Cartists) in the North Texas region and is planning its first art car parade & events in the dfw area in october 2011.

His fine art sculptures and paintings have been shown all in many galleries in the north texas region from the mary karam gallery in denison tx - to the dallas contemporary, the public trust, kirk hopper fine art gallery, the mckinney avenue contemporary, ro2 galleries, and numerous other fine art establishments in the dfw area. He shares an 8,000 sq ft painting & sculpture studio with four other fine artists in west dallas, tentatively called river west artist co-op.
