Kenny

1/2/2010 - Kenny Mountain

From Fort Collins, I drove south on I-25, west on CO-66 and west on US 36 to the Lion Gulch Trailhead. I followed the Lion Gulch Trail west, Trail 949.1 south and the trail towards Engert Homestead east. I continued following an old road east to a saddle, the continued cross-country up the northwest ridge of Kenny Mountain. For the descent, I decided to descend a steep gully. Getting to the gully required much post holing and hopping over downed trees. The terrain inside the gulch wasn’t much better. I was happy to arrive back on the trail. Perhaps a south side approach would be more appropriate in winter. Roundtrip took 4 hours.
