History of Volkssporting

In 1968, the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV) was formed to promote volkssporting throughout the world.  Volkssporting originated in Germany and can be translated as "The sport of the people".

Volkssporting made its debut in the US in 1976 as part of the nation's Bicentennial Celebration.  The national group or the American Volkssport Association became affiliated with the international group in 1979. There are over 300 chapters in the US.

The Dogwood Trailblazers were first organized in August, 1992 in Joplin, Missouri as a chapter of the national group.
