Spiritual Book Group This book group meets monthly at A Life Well Lived ~ Center for Inspired Living located at 43 Spring Street, Ramsey, NJ 07466. Normally, it will be held on the second Wednesday of each month with the exception of July and August, from 7pm to 9pm. Please check the calendar below for updates and changes. If you are interested in joining us, there is a link to the left where you can provide email information. Another option is to visit the ALWL homepage (also linked to the left) to find more direct methods of contacting us. Unfortunately, because of space limitations, we need to keep the number of participants to 12 or under for each session. If we reach this number, we will still keep you on the email list, since there are always sessions where not every member can attend. This is why RSVPing for each month is very important. If you cannot make the meeting, feel free to visit this site and participate in the online discussion!
In lieu of payment, we are asking that "love" donations be made each session to Raphael's Life House, a charitable group that is very important to us. Donations can be made in any amount on the night of each meeting.
Copies of each month's book can be purchased on site at the Center, but if you prefer you can pick them up online or at another bookseller of your choice.
Our Spiritual Focus
Our goal with this group was to choose literature that would help our attendees to stretch both their spiritual and emotional wings - our initial struggle was narrowing down all the amazing writing that exists out there. Eventually, we decided to begin with Kathleen McGowan's book The Source of Miracles (see the Book Info link for more information). She explains that by using The Lord's Prayer as a method of ongoing spiritual practice, we can affect change in our lives through seven steps: faith, surrender, service, abundance, forgiveness, obstacles, and love. Before we even began the first session we decided to take this concept even further by dividing the book into the seven focus chapters and dedicating a different month's meeting to each. We also made the choice to bring in secondary resources and books to help to delve more deeply into each concept. However, we do not want anyone to feel limited or unable to join our group part way through! Our major focus will be the themes from The Source of Miracles, with the second novel only an added source and discussion topic. Please remember that even if you do not finish the second book, you are still more than welcome to attend- most of the conversations will involve topics that we live with every day and so anyone can easily participate. Also, while The Lord's Prayer has always been viewed as a predominately Christian practice, we are focusing more on the overall spiritual aspect and so religious affiliations have little or nothing to do with it. All are welcome and we would love to see both new and returning faces! |
