Welcome!
The purpose of this site is to educate the masses about the usually amicable, but once hostile, relationship between the United States and Canada. Before starting, it is important to note that Canada did not truly become a sovereign nation until the 20th century. Prior to this time period, different regions of Canada were given differing amounts of autonomy, and were ultimatly considered part of the British Empire as British North America.
Our site primarily focuses on US-Canada relations in the 19th century. During this time multiple wars were fought between the two nations, including the War of 1812, during which both nations' capitals were burned. Fortunately, relations (relatively) improved. Throughout our research, we focused on both the differences between the United States and Canada, and how these differences contributed to and colored the two countries' diplomatic relations.
To navigate the site, simply use the links (organized by topic or time period) located on the left sidebar.
This website was created as a final project for an AP American History class.
